June 6, 1944. As dawn breaks over the ominous shores of Normandy, a cacophony of artillery erupts, drowning out the whispers of men clinging to fleeting thoughts of home. The icy grasp of the Atlantic plunges chill into their bones, while the metallic tang of blood and salt permeates the air; hope flickers like the dying embers of a campfire. For each soldier, the harrowing path of valor looms before them, a razor’s edge separating glory from nameless graves, where lives full of promise hang precariously in the balance. Secrets buried beneath the weight of war will surface, igniting fierce loyalties and bitter betrayals, testing the very fabric of humanity. Who among them will rise to shape history, and who will be lost to the unforgiving tides of fate?

## Opening passage

Corporal Elias Thorne gripped his blackened grease gun, desperate to reach the bunker’s iron door before the German machine-gun sweep shredded his platoon. His pulse hammered against his neck, rivaling the rhythmic thud of mortar rounds turning the surf into a frothing, red-tinged slush. A jagged piece of shrapnel tore through the man to his left, painting the sand in a gruesome spray of gray and crimson. Ahead, a scorched communication cable dangled from the pillbox; severing it could blind the enemy's artillery fire, or leaving it might allow Thorne to slip into the blind spot of the main defensive gate.
