## Opening passage

Soren needed to scrub the phantom scent of ozone from his mind before the target realized he was being hunted. His boots crunched against a floor composed of brittle, calcified teeth, the rhythmic sound signaling his intrusion into Elias Thorne’s fractured psyche. Above, a sky of roiling liquid iron dripped heavy, metallic rain onto the shifting landscape. He spotted the flicker of a memory—a blueprint for catastrophe—tucked behind a wall of pulsating, veined glass. The choice was clear: shatter the memory or risk the man.
